A New year and a new Start

Let me give you a little background on why I am starting this new blog.......

Hi, my name is Janice and I am an Artist. I have loved to paint since I was a very young child. I turned professional 3 years ago and  I have been working online and out of a studio at Clevedon Craft Centre, trading as Wellydog , painting and teaching Art.  Previous to that, I studied for a Fine Art degree as a mature student at the University of the West of England and, I then went on to do a PGCE ( Post Graduate Certificate in Education).  I did my teacher training on the foundation course at Weston College and I have taught at the City of Bristol College.

This year I have decided to give up my studio at the Craft centre and work again from home.  I need to concentrate more on my own work but to be able to pay the bills at the studio, I needed to teach so many hours, it never left any time to actually do any painting.  So I have stolen a bedroom in our house in Weston-super-Mare and filled it to the brim with all my Art equipment.  This may only be temporary, until I can either put a home studio in the garden, or if I get too distracted find an affordable studio elswhere, where I can just paint and not HAVE to teach.

Here are a few photos of my new studio at home as you can see it is very compact and bijou, but it suits me just fine at the moment :-)

I love to teach, just not 5 days a week and at the expense of seeing my family.  So this is where this new blog is going to come in.  I will from the beginning of January start to blog about all things Arty,  I have a few lessons lined up and some reviews of books, paints, and equipment, hint and tips and I also have a few artist interviews lined up, which I hope will be very interesting.

I am so excited to carry on sharing my wealth of experience. I have always been grateful that Artists generally are very  generous sharing knowledge with others and I want to continue this tradition.  I also think it helps my own art work.  I think I may get a bit lonely at home, as painting is generally a very insular thing to do. So I am relying on you all to participate and to comment as much as possible to make this an interesting and exciting journey for us all.

So I will see you early January ....
